Bus-to-work

Helping you save money on your journey to work

As part of its Sustainable Travel Plan, to encourage alternatives to travelling to work by car, the University has partnered with Reading Buses to offer staff discounted bus travel.

Bus-to-Work

Reading Buses are offering discounted bus travel to University employees. You can choose either an annual pass or a 90 day pass. The pass can be used on all routes within the relevant fare zone (SimplyReading or SimplyNetwork) and can be used in the evenings and at weekends, in addition to commuting to work. Under this scheme the payments will be taken as deductions from your net salary each month in equal instalments.

New prices effective from 1st October 2022

As a result of the Reading Buses fare increase being implemented from 5 September, there will be a slight increase to the annual pass and 90 day pass. From 1st October 2022, any new applications or renewals will be processed at the new prices:

   SimplyReading  SimplyNetwork
 90 day pass &²Ô²ú²õ±è;£122 &²Ô²ú²õ±è;£186
 Annual pass &²Ô²ú²õ±è;£465 &²Ô²ú²õ±è;£700

There will be no change for any existing customers until passes are renewed.

To take advantage of this offer you will need to download the application form and e-mail it to payroll@reading.ac.uk by the 15th of the month in order to have a bus pass valid from the 1st of the following month. Applications received after this date will be processed in the following month. Hard copy forms submitted by post cannot be accepted during this period of remote working. However, the e-mail account will continue to be monitored.

Eligibility

To be eligible to join the scheme you must:

1. Be an employee of the University

2. Have a contract of employment that is long enough to cover the period of the bus pass

3. Have a guaranteed monthly salary and sufficient net pay to cover the monthly deduction of the bus pass.
