The School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences has earned global recognition for its leadership in education, research, and training. Notably, 100% of our research in the Research Excellence Framework 2021 was rated as either "outstanding" or "very considerable". Our degree programmes are carefully designed to provide you with the skills that employers seek. We offer placement opportunities for hands-on professional experience during your studies and offer optional modules that allow you to tailor the course to your interests. Additionally, our psychology courses hold accreditation from the British Psychological Society (BPS), a vital credential for further pursuits in psychology practice. Graduates of our MSci Applied Psychology (Clinical) and MSci Speech and Language Therapy programmes are prepared for immediate entry into clinical settings.

The history of the School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences

The history of the School can be traced back to 1921 with the appointment of Albert Wolters – the University’s first Lecturer in Experimental Psychology.

As one of the first psychology departments in the UK, we have enjoyed a long and distinguished history. Now the School is firmly established as a world leader in teaching, research and training.
