Winning funding for doctoral research in the form of scholarships or project studentships is a competitive business and many of our candidates consider a range of options for funding their research.

The Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding Online, a resource external to the University, focuses on the possible alternatives to some of the most regularly advertised funding schemes. This guide has a large database of details on funding sources that may be less familiar (such as charities). It offers comprehensive guidance and a range of tools to help you prepare a winning grant application.

Accessing the guide

The °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ has a licence that allows its students (and applicants) to access the guide free of charge. You can find instructions below relating to which category you belong to:

Current students

If you have already commenced your studies at the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ and are seeking funding (whether for PhD, master's or undergraduate study), you can log in automatically to this resource via the (links to external site).

 

Prospective students

If you are a prospective student who has applied to the University but are yet to start, please email DoctoralandResearcherCollege@reading.ac.uk to request an access PIN. Please note that in your email, you will need to supply your full name and Reading applicant number and indicate that you are requesting access to the Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding.
