A tailor-made course

Kyan Tandy, final year BSc Consumer Behaviour and Marketing student at the °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼, says he’s convinced that it was the best choice he could have made.

“I recall my decision making for selecting a uni course and I was attracted to Reading because BSc Consumer Behaviour and Marketing is a one of a kind course! Coupled with the fact that Reading has a lot going for it – a lovely campus with everything you need, a thriving town and good transport links, it was a clear choice.”

The course has provided Kyan with many opportunities and a diverse selection of modules to keep his passion for marketing and business alive.

“I’ve enjoyed being able to take an optional entrepreneurship module which appeals to my own interests and goals. The core psychology module, which helped me understand the theory behind consumer behaviour, was a personal favourite too.

My final year modules have brought everything together, including through my dissertation titled ‘Clicks and Mortar – Investigating Gen-Z attitudes towards omni-channel retail’ where I’ve got to pursue my interest in marketing strategy in more depth.”

Professional experience and personal growth

Kyan gained significant work experience as part of his degree by choosing to undertake a placement year. The University offers plenty of support for students pursuing a placement role, including help to produce a great CV and mock interviews.

“I was fortunate enough, through the help of the university’s Placement team, to secure a ‘Direct to Consumer Marketing Placement’ with Samsung at their European HQ. This experience gave me an invaluable depth of industry insight that would be much more difficult to get if I wasn’t undertaking a placement year.”

“I was lucky to work alongside industry experts on a day-to-day basis. Not only did I learn about the world of marketing and eCommerce, but also how to conduct myself in the corporate world – an experience which enabled growth both personally and professionally.

Gaining industry experience and then being able to apply key learnings into my final year studies has been massively rewarding and reinforces how valuable the year was for me.”

Kyan hopes to secure a marketing role after graduating and is excited at the prospect of applying all of the knowledge he has learnt in a real-world marketing environment.
