At Reading, we carry out fundamental research in core mathematics.

This work underpins the application of mathematics to other disciplines and includes:

  • work in algebraic and analytic number theory
  • applied and computational complex analysis
  • nonlinear partial differential equations.

Number Theory

In its most basic sense, number theory is the study of the properties of the integers and – their building blocks â€“ the prime numbers. Number theory is an ancient mathematical discipline that remains a thriving area of modern research.

Analysis is one of the core mathematical disciplines. It offers a wide range of research topics, including investigations in number theory and applications of pure mathematics to areas such as fluid dynamics.
