Education in the UK

Coming to study from abroad can be daunting. That’s why we’re committed to ensuring you feel supported and are able to settle into university life and life in the UK as smoothly as possible upon arrival.

Department for Education 

The Department for Education (DfE) is a department of the UK government. It’s responsible for children’s services and education, including:
  • early years
  • schools
  • higher and further education policy
  • apprenticeships
  • wider skills in England.

The DfE looks after the provision of teachers and training teachers in England. The DfE also manages the official website for those considering becoming a teacher and training in the UK.

How to apply

Apply for a course via the .

You will need to input the provider code for your chosen teaching provider. The °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±¼Ç¼ provider code is R12.

University support

University Essentials

The University’s Essentials website contains specifically designed information to support international students.

The pages offer lots of advice and information on topics such as: 

  • accommodation
  •  opening up a bank account
  • health care
  • visas
  • culture shock.

You can contact the Admissions Team at teachertraining@reading.ac.uk for help with any aspect of your application including:

  • completing your application form
  • entry requirements
  • qualification equivalencies
  • advice on applying for your student visa.

Fees and funding

The Department for Education have introduced financial support for international students applying to study to teach languages or a physics-related programme at secondary level.

There are currently no financial incentives for international students for primary or early years programmes.

Step off campus and you'll find yourself in a bustling town centre offering a variety of shops, restaurants and activities. We're also well-connected – you can reach London Paddington within half an hour by train. 

Teacher training events

Come to a Postgraduate Initial Teacher Education event. These events cover all routes into teaching for Early Years, Primary and Secondary Postgraduate programmes.
