Research projects
Background
Kathryn received her BA in Anthropology & Classical Studies from the University of Alberta (Canada) and her MSc in Geographical Information Science & Archaeology from the University of Edinburgh. Since completing her MSc, she has worked in a variety of roles within the Higher Education and heritage sectors. These roles include University Teacher on the GIS and Remote Sensing MSc programmes at the University of Edinburgh, Field Archaeologist on the Cambridgeshire A14 Highways project with MOLA-Headland Infrastructure (MHI), and Historic Environment Records Assistant for Lincolnshire Country Council. She was the Research Assistant/Project Support Officer for the at Newcastle University, where she developed the WallGIS, a geodatabase and GIS for Hadrian’s Wall. Kathryn also supervises archaeological fieldwork and manages GIS and digital recording for two Oxford University projects - Silver & the Origins of the Viking Age Project and the Appleton Area Archaeological Research Project.
Kathryn’s research uses GIS methods to explore Roman military installations and landscape control on the frontiers of the Empire, particularly in Roman Britain.
