Welcome to the Safety section for SCFP

The role of Safety at the School of Chemistry, Food and Pharmacy is to promote, through active management of its hazards and activities, the safety, health and welfare of staff, students, visitors, contractors and members of the public on the premises and to protect them from any adverse effect arising from our activities.

The Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) provides a legal framework for safety regulations introduced in the workplace. It is the School's policy to comply fully with this Act and work with the University Health and Safety office to ensure we meet our obligations.

The School of Chemistry, Food & Pharmacy is hugely diverse and ensuring health and safety in all that we do is an absolute priority.  The information in our Health & Safety Policy explains how this is managed, indicates individual responsibilities and gives specific guidance about all aspects of the work we do.  Successful management of health and safety requires genuine commitment from staff at all levels and a shared responsibility.  Above all, it is our responsibility to take all necessary steps to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of all individuals who may be affected by our activities.
