Dr Juliet Brook

Juliet Brook
Associate Professor in Property Law

Areas of interest

Juliet’s research focuses on the law of succession. She has written extensively on issues relating to testamentary autonomy and testamentary capacity, and has carried out comparative work on the operation of dispensing powers in various common law jurisdictions. Her work feeds into the Law Commission’s Making a Will reform project, which is due to report in 2025. Her most recent work examines the historical basis for the rule that marriage automatically revokes a will, and the consequences of this for those with declining capacity.

Background

Juliet studied Philosophy at Pembroke College, Cambridge before studying the Post-Graduate Diploma in law and the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law, York. She qualified as a solicitor in 1998, specialising in commercial property.  Prior to joining the 澳门六合彩开奖记录 in August 2024 she worked at the University of Portsmouth (2013-2024) and Manchester Metropolitan University (2002 – 2013), where she taught property and succession law modules. She also has extensive experience of teaching and assessing post-graduate professional courses.
