Postgraduate supervision

Saeed welcomes proposals from prospective doctoral students with an interest in international humanitarian law, the law on the use of force, and international human rights law.

Background

Dr Saeed Bagheri is Lecturer in International Law at the 澳门六合彩开奖记录 School of Law, where he has also held a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship from 2019-2021. He is the Director of Academic Tutoring (PGT). Prior to joining the 澳门六合彩开奖记录, Dr Bagheri was a Max Weber Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the European University Institute (EUI) from 2017-2019. He conducts research in the law on the use of force, international humanitarian law, and international human rights law and has widely published on these topics in leading academic journals, including the International Review of the Red Cross, Journal of Conflict and Security, Irish Yearbook of International Law, Journal of Human Rights Practice, Nordic Journal of International Law, European Yearbook on Human Rights, etc. He is the author of  (Oxford, Hart Publishing, 1st edition, 2021). 

Dr Bagheri’s scholarship has been cited in academic resources and official documents, including the House of Lords of the United Kingdom (Order of Business: Economic Activity of Public Bodies - Overseas Matters) Bill Debate (17 April 2024), Vol. 837, No. 78, p. 229; the Scientific Services of the German Federal Parliament (Deutscher Bundestag, WD2 - 3000 - 031/22, 2022), the Sexual Rights Initiative’s Submission to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Unilateral Coercive Measures and the Right to Health (March 2023), the U.S. Peace Action Policy Briefing (2020), etc. His research has also been featured in the bibliography of the International Court of Justice (2014-16 and 2020-22), The International Committee of the Red Cross (2017 and 2021), The European Court of Human Rights (2021) and the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) (2018). He has been interviewed with and provided insights to several media outlets, including The Guardian, The Royal Borough Observer, The Conversation, The New Arab, Western Morning News, BBC Farsi, Euronews, Articles of War, Informed Comment, Daily Bulletin, Hamburg Global, Ecocide Law, Newsweek, Lawfare, Opinio Juris, Foreign Affairs (NZ), Head Topics, Climate Scepticism, Web Times, News Now, New Daily, News Break, and Royal United Services Institute of Nova Scotia (RUSI(NS)).

Dr Bagheri has held visiting positions, including Visiting Fellow at the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law, University of Cambridge (Summer 2018), Visiting Lecturer at the University College London (Spring 2018), and Visiting Fellow at the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies at Leiden University Law School (Spring 2018). Prior to his postdoctoral position, he was an Assistant Professor at Akdeniz University from 2015-2017. He is Co-Convener of the Interest Group on Peace and Security of the European Society of International Law (ESIL), Co-Convenor of the International Law Section of the Society of Legal Scholars (SLS), and a member of the British Branch of the International Law Association.
