TEEP grading system

All TEEP (Test of English for Educational Purposes) papers and speaking performances are double marked by standardised examiners to ensure fair and reliable results. Grades are expressed on a 0–9 scale, including half bands. There are individual grades for reading, listening and writing, as well as an overall grade.

As a general guide, the band system works as follows:

TEEP bands Learner profiles
0 no ability in English
1.0–4.5 some ability in English, but not enough for higher education in the UK
5.0–6.0 enough ability in English for some less linguistically demanding courses, or courses that include further English study (for example, some foundation courses)
6.5–7.0 the recommended minimum acceptable level for admission to higher education courses in the UK
7.5 and above acceptable for admission to higher education courses in the UK
