Raspberry Leaf Study

Purpose

Investigating the Effects of Raspberry Leaf on Glucose Metabolism in Healthy Adults.

Raspberry leaves are rich in vitamins and minerals such as potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, and iron. Raspberry leaf tea is thought to lower blood glucose levels. This study will investigate whether the oral consumption of raspberry leaf tea, together with common dietary carbohydrates, would reduce postprandial glucose levels in healthy adults. The study will look at 20 healthy adults.

We are looking for participants who:

  • Are aged 18-65 years.
  • Are non-smokers.
  • Are not taking certain types of prescribed medication, dietary supplements or herbal medicines.
  • Have not been on antibiotics in last three months.
  • Do not have food allergies or coeliac disease.
  • Do not consume more than 14 units of alcohol per week.
  • Are not pregnant, lactating or planning a pregnancy in the next six months.
  • Have not been on a weight loss program six months before screening.
  • Do not have severe cardiac, hepatic, renal function impairment or chronic illnesses.

Please note that the Raspberry Leaf study is ending soon and no longer recruiting volunteers.

What will taking part in the study involve?

Participants will be invited to attend a fasted screening visit at the Hugh Sinclair Unit of Human Nutrition. Participants who meet the criteria necessary to take part in the study will then be invited to four separate study visits within approximately four months.
