Increasing conflict over the management of our land and water bodies has led to demands for multi-purpose use of both, for everything from food production, the provision of renewable energy and conservation of biodiversity, to urban development and the provision of space for recreation and tourism.
Explore and address these critical issues with a degree in environmental management and sustainability.
You can tailor this course to suit your interests with one of our two pathways – Landscape and Countryside Management, and Global Environmental Management – or choose your own route and select modules from each.
You will also benefit from the programme's strong practical element, which includes a strong emphasis on field-based teaching and visits to environmental organisations.
You can opt to take the four-year course, which incorporates a year on a professional placement, and you'll also be encouraged to consider a study abroad experience as part of your degree.
The Department of Sustainable Land Management is part of the School of Agriculture, Policy and Development, which is made up of five academic departments. Our departments work collaboratively to deliver teaching and research across the School.

The flexibility and comprehensive nature of our Environmental Management and Sustainability programme means that it's excellent preparation for a range of careers, from a generalist working at an individual site to a specialist on a regional, national or international scale.
Possible careers for our graduates include: environmental management, nature conservation, environmental consultancy, business sustainability or environmental education.
Many have gone on to work for governmental organisations such as Natural England, the Environment Agency and local authorities, wildlife trusts, the National Trust, and environmental or ecological consultancy in the private sector.

During a mini-placement at the end of your first year, and during our regular careers fairs, you'll have the opportunity to establish good contacts among potential employers, and we provide you with advice on CV writing and job application strategies to increase the chances of getting the job you want.
Additionally, graduates of our Landscape and Countryside Management pathway are likely to be in high demand given the increased emphasis placed on the management of land for a wide range of purposes, and the development of an ecosystem approach to land management policy.
