The purpose of programme specifications

Programme Specifications are intended to provide a standard format for describing the University's taught degree programmes, in line with Quality Assurance Agency and (Sections 5d and 5e). They are produced mainly for internal use, although they contain information useful to current and prospective students and other stakeholders. As the content of the University s degree programmes is constantly being developed, the information contained within the specifications is liable to change.

Programme documentation pre-October 2002

Before October 2002, the formal details of the University's taught degree programmes were set out in a Syllabus document for each programme. Since the University moved to a modular degree structure in October 2002 (for Undergraduate and Integrated Masters programmes) and in October 2003 (for taught Postgraduate programmes), all taught programmes are required to have an associated Programme Specification, which replaced syllabuses as the formal documentation.

Syllabuses for all Undergraduate and Integrated Masters degree programmes which started before October 2002 and for the remainder of the taught Postgraduate programmes commencing in October 2002 can be found in the edition of the University Calendar appropriate to the year in which the programme commenced. Paper copies of the Calendar are available to view from the University's Graduation Office (contact Rachel HillKelly, x8117)

Programme Specifications post September 2024

The University has comprehensively revised its programmes to improve the student experience with effect from 2024/25. Students who enter their programme in 2024/25 will start on the revised programme, and students who have already completed part of their programme will follow their revised programme from the Part they are taking in 2024/25.

For example, a student who began their studies in 2023 will have followed the September 2023 Programme Specification in their first year of study and, following progression to their second year of study, will follow the September 2024 Programme Specification for 2024/25 and subsequent years.

Students: For information about the Parts which you are taking in 2024/25 and onwards, please refer to the Programme Specification for 2024/25. For information about the Parts of your programme which you have taken in 2023/24 or earlier, please refer to the historic Programme Specifications relating to your year of entry.

Students should contact their Academic Tutor or Programme Director for more details on any programme changes.

NB: There are some exceptions to this, and these have been highlighted on the Programme Specification lists for relevant years
