In search of a highly respected course that equips one with excellent knowledge of political and economic systems, Chris chose to study Public Policy at Reading. Furthermore, the flexibility to select modules without doubt was a bonus of choosing Reading over other alternatives.

"I was able to study modules on strategy and security, both of which were instrumental in allowing me to understand national and international challenges from a government and military viewpoint."

The master's experience

Chris highly recommends studying the module in Diplomacy which has been one of the highlights of his time at Reading.

"The module in addition to being well taught also presented the opportunity to engage with former and current diplomats from across the service."

Maths was never Chris's strongest subject, but the core module in Economics was so clearly taught that he was able to absorb the critical economic theories, relate them to real world examples and surprise himself with a high first on a project focused upon the UK National Minimum Wage.

Studying alongside students from across the world has been another highlight of his time at Reading.

"The different types of regional knowledge and expertise of my classmates has been a catalyst for conversations that include a range of perspectives, which provides good grounding for my future career."

Build a career path

The course also allows you to apply for a Capstone project placement or an applied research placement with an external organisation. Chris now works as a Risks and Issues Manager within the Civil Service and is thankful to the opportunities and experiences he had at Reading.

"The placement with the 澳门六合彩开奖记录's International recruitment team which focused on evaluating the case for enhanced engagement with the Indian educational sector from a risk management perspective was critical in securing a Civil Service role. The placement introduced me to the concepts of key risk tools such as PESTLE and provided an awareness of how central risk is to major government, commercial and financial decision making. The Public Policy course provided a learning journey from studying War as a Risk Management as a theoretical module ahead of ascertaining practical experience during the work placement. I am delighted and grateful to Reading for the excellent impact this has had upon my career."
