Areas of interest

My research interests lie in philosophy of language and epistemology. Much of my previous research has focused on context-sensitivity and the semantics-pragmatics interface, and the extent to which such debates inform epistemological inquiry. More recently, I have focused on the philosophical and linguistic relevance of large language models (like Chat-GPT or Claude), as well as the use of corpus linguistic methods more generally.

Postgraduate supervision

I'm happy to supervise PhD students in any of the following areas: philosophy of language; epistemology; corpus methods in philosophy; large language models and their relevance to philosophy (particularly philosophy of language).

Teaching

I teach the following modules at undergraduate level:

  • Reason and Argument: An introductory module that covers some key informal and formal techniques for identifying and evaluating arguments in philosophy and elsewhere.
  • Meaning and the Mind: This module focuses on some core topics in philosophy of mind and philosophy of language.
  • Ignorance, Doubt, and Relativism: This module focuses on core issues in epistemology, specifically in the theory of knowledge.
