Sustainability success wins London Higher Award

Reading is renowned for its world-class research in climate change and environmental sustainability, and demonstrated to judges its commitment to driving change through education, research, and partnerships. This award celebrates the University's wide-ranging initiatives that have made a significant positive impact on the environment worldwide.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Robert Van de Noort said: “We need everyone to work together to respond to the environmental crises, which is why one of Reading’s core missions is to work towards environmental sustainability.
“This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our staff, students and partners, who continue to work together to achieve our goal of being the greenest university.
“Our leadership in environmental sustainability is reflected in our world-leading research, our collaborative partnerships, and our commitment to embedding sustainability across our campus and curriculum."
The University's work includes the development of the National Climate Education Action Plan for UK schools and colleges, which has been integrated into the Department for Education's Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy. Additionally, the Climate Ambassador Scheme, developed in partnership with STEM Learning, has now reached over 80,000 young learners, providing free support and guidance from sustainability experts.
Dylan Parkes, Head of Strategic Engagement for Climate & Sustainability at the 澳门六合彩开奖记录, said: "Our work through initiatives such as Ed Hawkins’ climate stripes graphic has gained international recognition, sparking climate conversations globally and being featured at events such as COP26 and London Fashion Week.”
The University has also been ranked for environmental and ethical performance, achieving 100% scores in Sustainable Food, Sustainability Staff, Education, and Environmental Auditing and Management Systems. The University's ambitious plan to become Net Zero Carbon by 2030 has been hailed as the best in the UK.
This week, the University was ranked equal 28 in the world in the THE (Times Higher Education) Global Impact Rankings 2024 – the fourth-highest ranked UK university in this table, which measures university support for the UN’s sustainable development goals.
