Research-led teaching

Our Economics Department focuses on applied economic research directed towards improving the quality of life in the UK and around the world.

We work to address current socio-political issues, such as ethnicity and inequality in the job market, the gender pay gap, and UK housing reform.

To deliver research-led teaching, we align our modules to our research clusters, ensuring your learning is being informed by the latest developments.

Develop your skill set

Economics graduates have excellent prospects due to the excellent mix of skills an economic master's degree develops, such as analysis, writing, maths, econometrics and computing.

Independent working skills

Studying economics at postgraduate level requires a substantial amount of independent reading, research and study.

You'll need to take personal responsibility and show initiative in developing your knowledge and understanding of the field.

Written and communication skills

Learn how to communicate concepts and ideas to non-specialists in economics in a clear and concise manner.

The programmes also give you opportunities to develop your teamwork and presentation skills, such as through the Capstone module.

IT and statistical software skills

Your master's degree is a great chance to build up a strong working knowledge of current statistical software and other applications that are used in both the public and private sectors.
