Use our campus as your laboratory – our award-winning Whiteknights campus is a rich, biodiverse environment for entomologists and ecologists, with more than 130 hectares of woodlands, lakes, gardens and meadows.
You’ll also have access to the University’s Herbarium, the Cole Museum of Zoology, which houses several significant, donated insect collections, and our new £60m Health and Life Sciences building.
Our MSc by Research Entomology course is delivered by several expert in-house entomologists. In addition, nationally recognised external experts visit the University to deliver material.
Visitors from the National Trust, Butterfly Conservation, Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, and private consultants have previously spoken to students on a wide range of specialist topics.

As well as our Cole Museum of Zoology, which holds four entomological collections, we have many excellent collections close by. The British Entomological and Natural History Society insect collection is just 5km down the road at Dinton Pastures. Furthermore, our module leaders have large private collections that are used to facilitate study.
In our Ecological Survey Skills course, you will have the opportunity to learn through both hands-on practical work and academic teaching. You will learn to recognise plant and animal species and vegetation types. Field trips are supplemented by work on the award-winning green Whiteknights campus.
