We offer two agricultural programmes: BSc Agriculture and BSc Agricultural Business Management.

Both of these programmes can be studied over three years, or you can enhance your experience with a four-year degree and spend a year working in industry.

Alternatively, you can add a fourth year to your BSc Agriculture degree to study abroad with one of our partner institutions.

The Department of Crop Science is part of the School of Agriculture, Policy and Development, which is made up of . Our departments work collaboratively to deliver teaching and research across the School.

BSc Agriculture

Our broad-based BSc Agriculture course covers everything that impacts production in the supply chain while considering global goals relating to sustainability.

If you're interested in a particular specialism, you can follow one of our module pathways to be eligible to graduate with BSc Agriculture and Crop Science, BSc Agriculture and Horticultural Science, or BSc Agriculture and Livestock Production.

BSc Agricultural Business Management

Study a combination of business management theory and agricultural processes.

Empower your entrepreneurial competencies in recognising, envisioning and formulating strategies for undertaking opportunities in the agricultural industry and agricultural commodities market.

Fees and funding

There is a variety of funding support available to our undergraduates. You may be eligible for government loans, grants or bursaries.

Students from the UK can receive government loans to help towards tuition fees and living costs. They may also be eligible for grants and bursaries depending on their circumstances.

The AgriFood Charities Partnership

gives you the ability to from a number of charities that will support you in pursuing your studies on an undergraduate agricultural degree programme. A brief overview is given of the conditions and how to apply for each award along with contact details to find out what to do next.

Careers

Your degree will equip you with the skills, knowledge and understanding for a wide range of careers in agricultural and land-based industries, whether in farm or rural business management, in scientific, technical and advisory services including agronomy or livestock nutrition or in overseas development work.

We have a highly regarded reputation with employers, which means our graduates are in demand by the agricultural sector as well as by employers in other sectors.

We host annual careers fairs where our students have the opportunity to establish contacts with potential employers at a very early stage, and during farm visits and sessions with guest lecturers from the industry, you'll have the chance to establish a network of contacts from various parts of the sector.

Careers for BSc Agriculture graduates

Our graduates typically go on to work in a range of farming enterprises, or in technical or scientific roles within animal and crop research, crop and animal advisory services, agronomy, livestock nutrition and consultancy, and overseas development.

Many of our graduates enter self-employment within the farming sector, while others continue their agricultural studies at master's level.

Careers for BSc Agricultural Business Management graduates

Most of our graduates gain management and consultancy roles in the agriculture, food and ancillary industries, but the breadth of the applied degree programme makes BSc Agricultural Business Management an excellent foundation for careers beyond the agri-food chain, including in business, marketing, finance and accounting..

Some graduates enter self-employment immediately upon graduating, largely within the farming, business and food sectors, while others continue their agricultural business management studies at master's level.
