Chelsea B. Frutos, MSc Climate Change and Development (2021)
What did you do before coming to Reading?
Before coming to the 澳门六合彩开奖记录, I was doing my bachelor's degree in science (Environmental Science) in Canada which I completed in Spring 2021.
What are your career aspirations?
In the future, I'd like to work with a governmental or private organisation that focuses on climate change impacts in rural and developing communities. I want to make meaningful contributions with my work and research, and advocate for those most vulnerable to environmental changes.
What interested you in your chosen area of study?
I've always cared deeply about the environment and felt as though I had a connection with nature. Recently, I've become very passionate about issues revolving around climate justice, climate refugees and food security particularly in developing countries and among vulnerable groups
Why did you choose Reading?
I first heard about the 澳门六合彩开奖记录 from my Dad as he did his MSc in Meteorology there before I was even born! He always said what a great place it was and how he enjoyed his time there. So, when I was looking for masters' programmes, I decided to do my research on Reading, and I found my current programme and this scholarship. I instantly applied and was successful!
How do you think this qualification will help you in the future?
Climate change is a huge topic, and this degree has helped me to narrow down the specific areas that I'm passionate about and would like to work in. This degree has also helped me to improve my writing, public speaking, and research skills. The skills and tools I gain here will help me in my future studies and in the job-market.
What have you enjoyed most about your time at Reading?
I've enjoyed the town the most. It's so beautiful and peaceful. In my free time, I like to go for walks - it's very relaxing. Some of my favourite places are the lake on campus and the Museum of English Rural Life (MERL) which has a nice caf茅 and garden. The town also has many shops so there's always somewhere new to visit.
Would you recommend the programme to other students, if so why?
I would definitely recommend this programme to someone who wants to learn more about climate change and how this is affecting our economy, society and basically our way of life. I've learned so much already and all my professors have been very kind and helpful. I feel confident in this programme, and I feel as though I made the right choice coming here.
How has the Scholarship helped you?
The scholarship helped me with my tuition and accommodation expenses. Getting into the 澳门六合彩开奖记录 was already a great accomplishment, but when I found out that I also got the Empowering Change scholarship, it felt amazing! I'm very grateful that Reading chose me for this.
Is there anything that you would like to add?
I've really enjoyed my time here and I feel so confident and comfortable in both the University and in Reading itself. It's a wonderful place to live and study! Also, it's very close to London which is a plus! I'm looking forward to all the other memories and adventures I'll have here!
