Overview

Module aims and purpose

In this module students reflect on their own behaviour, strengths and weaknesses, personalities, knowledge, skills and capabilities.听Each participant will have developed diary entries through the master鈥檚 programme as part of their developmental journey.听 This will be engaged reflectively in consideration of each students鈥 own self development.听 听Students will attend a full day director mentoring/coaching workshop. Each student will engage in a one-to-one interview with a mentor/coach with a view to enhancing their director performance. This will include dealing with change, difficult situations, working in teams and self-awareness. The workshop/confidential one-to-one session will be an opportunity for the student to benefit from critical reflection and self-development areas.听

This module aims to benefit students with a director mentoring workshop and one-to-one interview session focused on their personal development.听

Module learning outcomes

By the end of the module it is expected that the student will be able to:听

  • 听Assess more about themselves as individuals听
  • Reflect on their own self-development goals听
  • Better conduct and handle issues/situations that they face听
  • Appraise their value to different contexts and situations听听

Module content

This module involves a 2-day workshop. Students will have developed their proposal and diary entries during the master鈥檚 programme. In this module students will have the opportunity to reflect in depth and more personally about themselves and how they are perceived by others in their role and experiences. Students will benefit from confidential session with mentors/coaches and have the opportunity to explore or discuss issues towards improving their Director effectiveness.听听

Structure

Teaching and learning methods

The module will be facilitated by academic staff / practitioner experts, reflective of their specialism. The session may include:听

  • PowerPoint presentations听
  • Individual exercises听
  • Group exercises combining theory and practice to support facilitated learning听
  • Work based and active learning opportunities听听

T&L approaches and exercises will cater to individual/differentiation needs by including range of questions and facilitated interactive Q&A as part of scaffolding. Each student will have opportunity to contribute to their own diary as part of the learning experience.听

Study hours

At least 20 hours of scheduled teaching and learning activities will be delivered in person, with the remaining hours for scheduled and self-scheduled teaching and learning activities delivered either in person or online. You will receive further details about how these hours will be delivered before the start of the module.

Penalties for late submission of summative assessment

This module is subject to the Penalties for late submission for Postgraduate Flexible programmes policy, which can be found at:

The Module Convenor will apply the following penalties to work submitted late:

  • where the piece of work is submitted up to one calendar month after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): 10% of the total marks available for that piece of work will be deducted from the mark;听
  • where the piece of work is submitted more than one calendar month after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): a mark of zero will be recorded.

You are strongly advised to ensure that coursework is submitted by the relevant deadline. You should note that it is advisable to submit work in an unfinished state rather than to fail to submit any work.

Formative assessment

Formative assessment is any task or activity which creates feedback (or feedforward) for you about your learning, but which does not contribute towards your overall module mark.

Students are required to work in groups and progressively analyse and develop a case study, producing a flip-chart or power-point presentation. Students are required to present the findings to the cohort and receive feedback from their peers and from the module convenor, towards the writing up of their group case study analysis report.听
