Summary module description:

This module is primarily designed to give students a general understanding of basic econometrics with an emphasis on the interpretation of basic linear regression results and their relevance in economic analysis.Ìý


Aims:

The module aims to introduce students to the empirical analysis of economic models.


Assessable learning outcomes:

The module covers various aspects of Econometrics.ÌýAt the end of the module students should be able to:




  • understand issues involved in regression model specification;

  • interpret regression results;

  • conduct simple hypothesis tests;

  • have a general understanding of the main assumptions that underlie the application of statistics to economic problems.

Outline content:


  • The simple linear regression model, interpretation of different functional forms.

  • The multiple linear regression model.

  • Inference in the multiple linear regression model, hypothesis testing.

  • Further forms of regression models and their interpretation.


Global context:

This module is compulsory for the MSc Business Economics degree programme.
