Summary module description:
This module aims to provide an opportunity for students in PG programmes to develop relevant skills to manage an independent research project, in terms of critical evaluation of existing literature, and appropriate collection and analysis of accounting and finance information. The completion of the project will be guided and supported by supervisors with relevant expertise in accounting financial management and business analytics.
Aims:
To provide students with an opportunity to define and execute an independent piece of application-oriented research in accountingÌýfinancial management and/or in business analytics.
Assessable learning outcomes:
By the end of the module it is expected that the student will be able to:ÌýÌý
1. Identify and summarise the key issues of a topicÌýÌý
2. Design, explain and justify the research approach adopted to tackle more practical business applicationsÌý
3. Identify, summarise and critically?appraise relevant literature (where appropriate)Ìý

Outline content:
- Autumn term lecture?will introduce students to the general requirements of the project.Ìý
- Summer term lectures will develop skills in research project management and execution.
- The individually tailored supervision will support progress on the project during the summer term.
Global context:
The module appreciates the ever-increasing global tendencies in business practice and/or the ever-increasing importance of digitalisation in international business environment (including the use of big data).
Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
Lectures will be used to provide initial guidance. Students will also be allocated a tutor to act as supervisor. The supervisor will provide guidance and supportÌýas necessary. Learning will largely be student-centred and unique to the student.?Ìý

Summative assessment- Examinations:
None.
Summative assessment- Coursework and in-class tests:
One 6,000 -?8,000 word?project on an approved topic related to the programme. A 10% excess is allowed. The project will have a 100% weighting in the overall assessment. It is to be submitted in?the?summer vacation.
Formative assessment methods:
Students are required to provide drafts of the main parts of the project and the final draft. They are provided with the feedback on all written work which allows them to improve their final draft that they submit.?
Penalties for late submission:
The below information applies to students on taught programmes except those on Postgraduate Flexible programmes. The Support Centres will apply the following penalties for work submitted late:
- where the piece of work is submitted after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): 10% of the total marks available for that piece of work will be deducted from the mark for each working day (or part thereof) following the deadline up to a total of five working days;
- where the piece of work is submitted more than five working days after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): a mark of zero will be recorded.
You are strongly advised to ensure that coursework is submitted by the relevant deadline. You should note that it is advisable to submit work in an unfinished state rather than to fail to submit any work.
Assessment requirements for a pass:
A mark of 50%.

Resubmission of project as part of the overall arrangements for the MSc programme
