Summary module description:

This module is one of a suite of four modules under the theme 鈥Flexible Learning Path鈥 intended to recognise the learning and professional application of outcomes from courses not carrying formal academic credits. Students will, under the guidance their personal tutor, select the module from the Flexible Learning Path which is most appropriate to their requirements. Students will only be able to take one module.



This evidence of learning allows students to take ownership of their personal, professional and academic development and to demonstrate acquired knowledge and skills to enhance their practice within the workplace.听


Aims:

Students will be able to pursue a flexible range of learning pathways, including short courses and professional development activities that provide skills and learning appropriate to their employment. Students will take ownership of their personal, professional and academic development and will use this module to demonstrate the use of acquired knowledge and skills which enhance their practice within the workplace.


Assessable learning outcomes:

On completion of the module, learners should be able to:




  • Demonstrate a reflective and self-critical approach to personal and professional development

  • Critically evaluate the learning and skills gained from academic and professional study and its application to the workplace

The following transferable skills will be developed in this module:




  • Negotiation skills


Outline content:

Students will be expected to evidence their personal learning through justification of need and benefit within the context of their workplace. The nature of the learning will be flexible but must be fully justified by the student in terms of relevance and benefit to their employment. Learning will be required to include 50 hours of study as defines the credit weighting of this course.


Brief description of teaching and learning methods:

Students will research and justify personal learning courses with the support and advice of their industrial mentor and personal tutor.



Learning will be acquired through various teaching and learning strategies used in the taught study modules, units and courses that the student has undertaken.

Formal contact will be provided through supervisory team meetings.听 An initial contact session will introdu ce students to the expectations and purpose of the document.



Contact hours will vary according to the teaching and learning strategies used within the component study courses, but overall student effort, including preparation of the written assessment work will represent 50 hours of study.
