Summary module description:

This module is open to teachers, practitioners and those interested in the place of the Arts and creativity in education and society. The module will consider the importance of creative learning through practice and enable students to engage in creative projects in art, drama and creative writing. Integral to this focus will be the contemporary role of the practitioner as artist, dramatist and writer in Arts education.


Aims:
£ To develop knowledge and understanding of the Arts in education and society
£ To identify the importance of the Arts as a vehicle for learning and developing creativity
£ To learn about and consider theories of creativity and their relationship to practice in the Arts
£ To develop students£ knowledge and understanding of contemporary practices in the Arts
£ To engage students in creative Arts projects
£ To consider how the Arts might support inclusive practice within areas such as gender, ethnicity and special needs

Assessable learning outcomes:
Successful candidates will:
£ Demonstrate a critical understanding of the nature and value of the Arts in education and society.
£ Demonstrate an in depth knowledge and understanding of creative learning through the Arts.
£ Be able to review and analyse theories of creativity within Arts education
£ Demonstrate a growing knowledge of contemporary practices in the Arts
£ Develop their personal engagement and practice within the Arts

Outline content:

The module will examine the Arts in education and society and identify the importance of the Arts in the development of creativity. Students will engage in creative projects in art, drama and creative writing and make links between these three areas.Ìý


Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
This module has a high level of practical learning which will take place in studios; this is supplemented by theoretical underpinning within other teaching.

Penalties for late submission:

The Support Centres will apply the following penalties for work submitted late:

  • where the piece of work is submitted after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): 10% of the total marks available for that piece of work will be deducted from the mark for each working day (or part thereof) following the deadline up to a total of five working days;
  • where the piece of work is submitted more than five working days after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): a mark of zero will be recorded.
