Summary module description:
To provide a basis for students with little previous training in economics to enter one of the MSc courses offered by the Department Agricultural and Food Economics.

Aims:
To provide a basis for students with little previous training in economics to enter one of the MSc courses offered by the Department Agricultural and Food Economics.

Assessable learning outcomes:
Is to advance students to a good understanding of the following areas of economics and how they can be applied to agriculture and food: * Basic economic concepts, including specialisation and trade * Consumer theory * Production and theory of the firm * Market structures * Government intervention

Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
The course is very student learning orientated, with lectures, set reading and essay writing, exercises and optional computer-based tutorials. Every student will be given a core text and notes.

Tests: 2 tests one in the second week of the course and one in the final week. There is no formal pass requirement, students proceed to post-graduate study on satisfactory completion of the course.
