Summary module description:

This module is for students studying the MSc in Regulation and Compliance (Degree Apprenticeship) only.


Aims:

This module is intended to encourageÌýstudents toÌýbecome reflective practitioners. They willÌýreflect on their own practice, including how they haveÌýappliedÌýinsights from the course in practice. It aimsÌýto developÌýstudents’Ìýability to critically approach regulatory problems using different lenses and perspectives, includingÌýhow conceptsÌýfrom otherÌýacademicÌýdisciplines can be applied to the regulation of finance.ÌýIt also seeks to develop thought leadership and horizon scanning to consider how the world of financial regulation and compliance may evolve in the future.Ìý


Assessable learning outcomes:



  1. Critically reflect on their own practice, includingÌýhowÌýtheirÌýacademic studies have informedÌýtheirÌýpractice and may do so in the futureÌý




  2. Compile a portfolio to evidence howÌýtheirÌýpractice has developed over the course ofÌýtheirÌýstudiesÌý




  3. review key contemporary topics relevant to the practice of financial regulation today and critically&nbs p;Ìý




  4. understand how insights from different academic disciplines could inform financial regulation or complianceÌý




  5. evaluate how current and future practicesÌýcould impact the development of financial services and any implications forÌýtheirÌýexistingÌýrole/possible future careerÌý




Additional outcomes:

The formative and summative elements of this module are intended to support the Apprenticeship End Point Assessment (EPA) process. Students can use their reflective portfolio, case study and their individual mentoring session to prepare for their EPA.Ìý


Outline content:

This module includes twoÌýfull-dayÌýtaught sessions. The first will focus on the concept of ‘reflective practice’ and the second will present some contemporary topics that areÌýcurrentlyÌýreshapingÌýthe financial sectorÌý(or may do so in the future). There will also be online videos and lecture materials to introduceÌýsome interdisciplinary concepts (such as philosophy and ethics, history, meteorology and design)Ìýpresented byÌýacademicsÌýex pert in those subject areas).ÌýStudents will also take part in a mentoring session to discuss how they feel their practice has developed.


Brief description of teaching and learning methods:

Taught content for this module will primarily be delivered through lectures and syndicated learning, which willÌýbe delivered inÌýtwoÌýfull-day sessions eitherÌýat Henley Business SchoolÌýorÌýatÌýa central London location.ÌýRelevantÌýmaterials and learning will also be shared through the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) that is intended to facilitate and aidÌýthe students’Ìýlearning journey within the MSc Programme. Students will also be exp ected to conduct substantial guided independent learning using materials available via the university library.Ìý

Summative assessment- Coursework and in-class tests:

Students will prepare one case study (2000 words)Ìýreflecting on how their practice has developed or been informed by their studiesÌýbased on a practical example.ÌýThis will represent 40% of the final module mark.Ìý



Students will also write an essay (3000 words) examining how either a contemporary issue(s) or an interdisciplinary insight(s) may influence the future development of the financial sector, andÌýevaluating what this may mean for regulation and/or compliance in general, and for their own role/career in particular. This will represent 60% of the final module mark.Ìý



Students will prepare a portfolio of evidenceÌýto demonstrate how their practice has developed and any practical application of lessons learned from their studies. This will be marked on a pass/fail basis.Ìý


Formative assessment methods:

Students will discuss and reflect on their practice in peer review sessions and in their mentoring session.

Assessment requirements for a pass:
