Practicum / Industrial Training
Aims:
The aim of this module is to provide students with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience, building on previous experience gained through other placement-related and employment-related modules in the programme.听 It will allow students the opportunity to explore future career opportunities and network with professionals in their chosen field.
Assessable learning outcomes:
- Assess their professional skills and competencies and identify areas of development
- Formulate strategies to enable them to achieve their career goals
- Evaluate the role of psychology in the workplace, with reference to previously learned material, including professional ethics
- Effectively reflect on communication, problem-solving, leadership and teamwork during the organisation and execution of practicum duties
Additional outcomes:
- Practical applications of psychological theory and research
- Apply multiple perspectives and levels of explanation to understand behaviour
- Integrate material from different fields of psychology and cognate areas
- Search for information, using suitable sources, about a specific topic
Outline content:
The module only applies to students registered with the Malaysia branch campus. This module comprises interactive lectures and tutorials, as well as a work placement of 340 hours in a field related to students' career choice.
Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
Teaching will be delivered through lectures and tutorials. The module also contains a substantial work placement, which students will identify and carry out for themselves, with support. The module therefore strongly encourages self-directed learning in relation to work based skills.

Summative assessment- Coursework and in-class tests:
This module is assessed through completion of practicum / industrial training hours and coursework.
Students will complete a total of 340 hours of practicum / industrial training (pass/fail).
Students will also complete a practicum report (75%) and a video-based oral presentation about the practicum (25%).

Assessment requirements for a pass:
Students must complete the required 340 hours for this module.
Students registered at the Malaysia branch campus are required to undertake a total of 480 hours of industrial training / practicum / placement / internship, in order to graduate. This is a programme standards requirement set by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency.
Reassessment arrangements:
Reassessment is an oral presentation covering their placement.听 All students must fulfil the required 340 hours in placement.
