An applied piece of research, undertaken by students individually, leading to a report and recommendations pertaining to a company in relation to a contemporary issue in the Marketing discipline. The selected topicÌýmust be alignedÌýto the MSc Marketing pathway you are enrolled inÌý(i.e. International, Digital or Consumer).Ìý
Aims:
To provide students with an opportunity to define and execute an independent piece of research in Marketing.Ìý
Assessable learning outcomes:
By the end of the module it is expected that the student will be able to:Ìý
- Identify and summarise the key issues of a topic.Ìý
- Design, explain and justify the research approach adopted.?Ìý
- Identify, summarise and critically appraise relevant academic literature.?Ìý
- Identify, analyse, and evaluate data.?Ìý
- State, explain and justify given conclusions.Ìý
- Organise and present information clearly, succinctly and in the required format.Ìý
Additional outcomes:
Lectures will be used to provide initial guidance. Students will also be allocated a supervisor. The supervisor will provide approximately three hours contact for consultation as necessary. Learning will largely be student-centred and the responsibility of the student.?Ìý
Outline content:
- Autumn and spring term lectures and summer workshops will introduce students to the requirements of the project and outline key focus areas.?Ìý
- Research methods training will also be provided to help focus the study and provide guidance in terms of possible approaches and techniques.Ìý
- StudentsÌýwill be allocatedÌýa supervisor and will benefit fromÌýa number ofÌýface-to-face meetings.Ìý

Assessment requirements for a pass:
A weighted average mark of all coursework components of 50%.Ìý

Note that it is a requirement of the award of the MSc Marketing that students pass this module.Ìý
Reassessment arrangements:
By resubmission of the project (with the project now carrying 100% weight). Students only have the right to be reassessed once.Ìý
