Summary module description:

This module aims to develop and enhance key skills in oral presentation and the ability critically and reflectively to discuss the research process and experience and the methodologies adopted.


Aims:
This module aims to develop and enhance key skills in oral presentation and the ability critically and reflectively to discuss the research process and experience and the methodologies adopted.

Assessable learning outcomes:
After completing the module, students will:

  • Be able to plan and deliver a cogent presentation discussing the research process and experience;
  • Be able to demonstrate good oral presentation skills and the appropriate use of visual aids;
  • Demonstrate an ability to discuss and reflect critically upon the research process and methodological issues;
  • Demonstrate depth of knowledge and critical reasoning in their area of research;
  • Be able to respond accurately to questions arising from their presentation.

Additional outcomes:
This module will also encourage the development of independent learning, as well as knowledge transfer and dissemination skills and personal responsibility.

Outline content:
Students will produce a research poster reflecting aspects of the process and experience of researching their dissertation and their key findings. They will also give a 20 minute assessed presentation discussing how they researched their dissertation, the methods and methodology used, any difficulties encountered and reflecting on the research experience.

Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
Teaching and learning is primarily in the form of regular supervision, supplemented by classes according to student interest and staff availability.

  • 40% research poster reflecting aspects of the process and experience of researching the dissertation and key findings.
  • 60% 20 minute presentation on the process and experience of researching the dissertation.
