Summary module description:

This module is primarily designed to give students a general understanding of basic econometrics with an emphasis on the interpretation of basic linear regression results and their relevance in economic analysis.听


Aims:

The module aims to introduce students to the empirical analysis of economic models.




Assessable learning outcomes:

The module covers various aspects of Econometrics.听At the end of the module students should be able to:




  • understand issues involved in regression model specification;

  • interpret regression results;

  • conduct simple hypothesis tests;

  • have a general understanding of the main assumptions that underlie the application of statistics to economic problems.

Outline content:


  • The simple linear regression model, interpretation of different functional forms.

  • The multiple linear regression model.

  • Inference in the multiple linear regression model, hypothesis testing.

  • Further forms of regression models and their interpretation.


Global context:

This module is compulsory for the MSc Business Economics degree programme and is intended to help to prepare students to take the 10 credit Quantitative Research Methods module.

Lectures will be used for the exposition of the principal concepts, principles and techniques.听
