Your eVisa
The Home Office is changing the way in which individuals prove their immigration status in the UK. The new system will replace physical documents such as BRPs and passports containing a vignette with a new digital immigration status known as an ‘e-Visa’. This will become effective from 01 January 2025. This includes students who have already been granted a Student visa with an expiry date later than 31 December 2024 but their BRP card expires on that date. An eVisa is a digital immigration status which provides proof of your immigration permission and will allow organisations such as employers, landlords and universities, to check and verify your immigration status to assess your right to work, rent or study in the UK.
All visa-holders must now sign up and create their UKVI account and get access to their eVisa if they have not already done so.
Through the transition period between now and the 31 December 2024, anyone holding a BRP must continue to carry this when travelling until their BRP expires.
As of 07 August 2024, any student with a BRP expiring on 31 December 2024 can create a UKVI account and access their eVisa, without needing an invitation from UKVI to do so.
The e-Visa is completely free - be aware of scams if you have been asked to provide bank details or pay.
An eVisa is an online record of your immigration status and the conditions of your permission to enter or stay in the UK. You will need to create a UKVI account to access your eVisa.
